The name “ElkY” has been a well-known commodity in the online poker world for years now, in fact “ElkY” was one of the first online poker players to gather a cult-like following. Before turning to poker, Grosspieller was one of the top Starcraft gamers in the world, and his poker success opened the floodgates for professional gamers to take a shot at poker.
Those people who didn’t know of “ElkY’s” past fame as a gamer were drawn in by his outstanding play –an originator of the loose/aggressive style that has swept the poker world—and zany table talk that had many railbirds wondering if he was insane, a pre-teen, or the most likely, and in the end correct, assumption that he was from outside the US –Grosspieller is from France.
“ElkY” is one of the few online poker pioneers who has gone on to have perhaps even more success in live poker tournaments than he has in online poker. In recent years the name Bertrand Grosspieler seems to show up at a major poker tournament final table every month.
The 28 year-old has earned over $5.8 million in live tournaments in the last three years alone! With an EPT and WPT title, the only thing lacking from “ElkY’s” trophy case is a World Series of Poker bracelet –Grosspieler has eight cashes and one final table thus far at the WSOP.
“ElkY” has made a deep run in the WSOP Main Event the past two years finishing 370th and 122nd respectively, and was among the chip-leaders for most of the 2009 WSOP Main Event before being eliminated.
With eight cashes worth at least 6-figures “ElkY” has a way of pulling out his A-Game for the major poker tournaments –and “ElkY” also seems to shine in the Caribbean, which accounts for close to $2.5 miilion of his total winnings!-- some of his career accomplishments are:
* 2nd place in the Scandinavian Open in 2007 worth $406,726 * 1st place in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in 2008 worth $2,000,000 * 1st place in the WPT Festa Al Lago in 2008 worth $1,411,015 * 1st place in the EPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in 2009 worth $433,500 * 3rd place in the WPT Five Star World Poker Classic in 2009 worth $776,245 * Semi-Finalist in the 2009 NBC Heads-Up Championship worth $125,000
In addition to his success in live tournaments “ElkY” has accumulated over $1.6 million in online poker tournament winnings. How much he has won playing cash games and Sit & Go tournaments will have to remain a mystery for the time being.
“ElkY” will go down in poker history as the first player to reach both Supernova and Supernova Elite on PokerStars: Somehow able to accomplish the feat of collecting 100,000 PokerStars points in just two weeks, and the 1,000,000 needed to become a Supernova Elite in just 4 and ½ months! It should come as no surprise that “ElkY” also holds the record for most S&G tournaments played in an hour – managing to play a whopping 62 games and even more incredibly he made a profit!
