Poker player profile: Hac ‘trex313’ Dang

Click here to watch Trex313 playing nosebleed stakes online.

Hac Dang got a little bit of exposure at the 2009 WSOP where he made his first major tournament cash, finishing in 98th place worth $47,000. Many people would consider this a decent showing; Dang probably felt the week-long tournament was a waste of time.

You see, you may not know Hac Dang, but you most likely have heard of his Full Tilt Poker screen-name: “trex313”. So while an anonymous Hac Dang would love the $37,000 in profit from the WSOP cash: For Dang’s alter ego “trex313” the $47,000 is less than a buy in, in his regular game of $500/$1000 Mixed Pot Limit Hold’ Em and Omaha on Full Tilt.

Since 2008, Hac Dang –not to be confused with his high stakes playing brother Di “Urindanger” Dang-- has won close to $6 million playing online poker. Between the two Dang brothers they have taken over $10 million off their opponents. It should be pointed out that the brothers never sit in the same game, since they share a bankroll.

The brothers are Asian American and their poker story has its roots in Virginia where both of the brothers majored in mechanical engineering at the UVA. They started out on Party poker, crushing the lower and midstakes games but they shot to fame some time later.

The name “trex313” burst onto the poker scene in 2008 when Hac was able to best Phil Ivey in a series of impromptu matches. The notoriety of taking on, and beating, one of the best known players in the world sent searches for “who is trex313?” through the roof on search engine sites Google and Yahoo. The answer came back Hac Dang, brother of Di Dang. However, both brothers

Having to consistently ply his skills against the other top players in the world has not been a problem for Hac Dang: Routinely besting online poker mega-stars Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, Brian Hastings, Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr’ Dwan, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, and Richard Ashby.

It would be interesting to see how the brothers would fare against each other, and that dream-match would probably create as much, if not more, buzz in the poker community than the “durrr Challege” which is currently pitting Tom “durrrr” Dwan against Patrik Antonius (with Phil Ivey supposedly next in line). The Dang brothers might be the only poker players who can beat the Dang brothers!

However, this matchup is unlikely while the two brothers share a bankroll, unless orchestrated by an online poker site like Full Tilt (hint, hint, wink, wink).

Since sites started keeping track of the online poker ‘nosebleed’ stakes, only four players have won more money than Di and Hac Dang:

Phil Ivey - $10,186,653

Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond - $7,861,631

Tom “durrrr” Dwan - $7,116,369

Patrik Antonius - $6,166,673

Di “urindanger” Dang - $5,337,822

Hac “trex313” Dang - $5,010,853

A truly amazing accomplishment when you realize the two brothers hold the #5 and #6 spots on the list; ahead of such names as Gus Hansen, David Benyamine, and other well known players. What's even crazier? The brothers are only 23 and 24 years old!
