Poker player profile: Di ‘Urindanger’ Dang
How good is Di Dang? In the week leading up to me writing this he is up $834,000 on Full Tilt Poker! Dang who has never cashed in a major tournament is so anonymous in the poker world that Daniel Negreanu tried to give him advice on how to play –like he was some newcomer to the game without a clue-- at the 2008 WSOP Main Event. Dang took the needle in stride, and in the end it was Negreanu who came off looking a little foolish.
The greatest part of the story is that while Dang is simply just another face at a poker table in Las Vegas, his online poker screen-name brings instant recognition! Talk about living in the Internet era, when a player’s alias is better known than their name or face. Actually his name and face are as unknown as his screen-name is well known.
Di Dang is another in the young, fearless, online poker superstar mold. Dang not only plays against other young poker prodigies like Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, and legends Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen, Dang routinely takes their money!
Di “Urindanger” Dang was the most successful cash game player on Full Tilt Poker in 2008, winning close $3.7 million from the other nosebleed-stakes players on Full Tilt. Dang also plays a smattering amount at other sites; including PokerStars where he uses the moniker “ilvdnfl”. Since 2007, Dang is up over $5 million on Full Tilt.
The screen-name “Urindanger” strikes such fear into other players that Dang has trouble getting anyone to play him heads-up; which prompted a shift to Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) games, where Dang has proven just as efficient as his bread-and-butter No Limit Hold’ Em (NLHE) games.
Dang is known for his consistency (winning practically month after month), and his short-handed play (especially heads-up where he is practically without peer). His proficiency may eventually lead Dang to have to offer some type of overlay to his opponents –similar to the “durrrr” challenge, issued by Tom Dwan, when he had trouble getting a heads-up PLO game.
Dang is also the brother of fellow high stakes online poker pro Hac “trex313” Dang. The two brothers from Virginia, who never sit in the same game because they share a bankroll, are leaving other sibling poker teams in their wake; with perhaps the exception of Annie Duke and Howard Lederer.
With the amount of money he is able to take off of Full Tilt and other online poker sites across the web, it’s no wonder Di plays very few live tournaments; they simply keep him away from the real money at the cash game tables he frequents. |
