Poker Player Profile: Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso plays exclusively on PokerStars. Click here for your chance to play with pokers hottest babe.
The term ‘Poker babe’ is often applied to any good-looking woman who plays even a smattering of poker (or perhaps has mistakenly wandered into a card-room), but in the case of Vanessa Rousso both parts –Poker and Babe—apply. Sorry guys, she married fellow poker pro, Chad Brown, earlier this year; making them the quite a formidable poker playing couple. Perhaps it’s time to bring back the Mixed Doubles Event at the WSOP???
The French born, Florida raised Rousso (who holds dual citizenship with France and the US), seems to excel in everything she puts her mind to; Rousso has accomplished more at the age of 26 than most people could hope for in two lifetimes. Whatever the endeavor, she seems to put her all into it, and as the old adage goes: “The harder you work, the more luck you will have!”
Academic accomplishments: High School Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA; graduated from Duke University in 2.5 years with a degree in economics; enrolled in University of Miami Law School, and was in the top 5% of her class before deciding to concentrate on other endeavors (namely poker).
Athletic accomplishments: Competed for her high school swimming and lacrosse teams.
Humanitarianism: Founder and President of her High School Environmental Club; volunteer for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD); organized charity golf tournaments while in college.
Other Accomplishments:
* Authored articles on Game Theory for American Poker Player * A regular contributor for BLUFF Magazine * Hired to teach poker to the FORBES 100 Most Powerful Women * Team PokerStars sponsored pro “LadyMaverick” * In April 2009, she launched “Big Slick Poker Camp” which relates poker to the Art of War, by Sun Tzu, and the camp was an instant hit, at $399 per person * Appeared in the 2009 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition * Became a Go Daddy girl in 2009, and official spokesperson for the Domain registration company
Poker
Vanessa has been playing poker since age 5, but really picked up the game during her time at Miami Law School. Despite her youth, she has already become one of the most accomplished female poker players in history, and has been able to cross over the poker gender line-- which is no easy accomplishment! She is currently in the top 10 of the all-time female money winners, and those numbers exclude her online winnings!
However, it has been 2009 that has propelled Rousso into the realm of superstardom, not simply a female poker player.
* January 2009 –Placed 7th at the WPT Southern Poker Championship * March 2009 – Finished Runner-up to Huck Seed in the NBC National Heads-Up Championship * May 2009 – Won the EPT Monte Carlo High Rollers Event
Vanessa also has four cashes in the 2009 WSOP (to date), including a very respectable 27th in the $40k NLHE Commemorative Tournament.
Rousso’s lifetime tournament earnings exceed $2.2 million, putting her in 169th place on the all-time money list; ahead of such names as Jen Harman, Phil Gordon, and Sam Farha! Not a bad achievement for someone who started playing live tournaments a mere 5 years ago!
If Vanessa continues to hone her poker skills there is no telling how good she can become. Let’s just hope that she doesn’t set her sights on another endeavor; which she would undoubtedly climb to the top of in no time!
