Dealt Rakeback

Dealt Rakeback Method

Once an online poker player signs-up for a rakeback deal through a poker affiliate, one of the first questions they ask is, “How is my rakeback percentage calculated?” The answer is that it depends on how the poker site in question calculates rakeback. Fortunately, most online poker sites use “Dealt Rakeback” to calculate the percentage of poker rakeback you will receive.

Before discussing dealt rakeback I’ll quickly explain the unit of measure online poker sites use for determining the amount of rake you have personally paid, that is eligible for rakeback: This running total of paid rake is known as Monthly Gross Revenue or MGR for short. Your MGR is the number that your rakeback percentage will be applied to, in order to calculate your final rakeback earnings.

Now, suppose you have a total MGR of $300 and you are receiving a rakeback deal that gives you 33% rakeback. To determine your total rakeback amount you simply multiply your MGR by your rakeback percentage (in this case $300 * .33) which would give you total rakeback earnings of $99.

Now I’ll move on to specifically calculating dealt rakeback.

Dealt rakeback simply means that every player who was dealt into the hand will be considered as contributing an equal percentage to the rake in the eyes of the poker site. For instance, if 10 players were dealt into the hand, and the final pot was raked $2, the site considers each player’s contribution to the rake to be $.20. So a player with a rakeback deal would have $.20 added to their MGR.

A couple things to keep note of when figuring out your rakeback using the dealt rakeback calculation:

  • A player sitting out is not counted as having contributed to the rake.
  • If the game is full but two players are sitting out, only the eight players who were dealt cards are considered to have contributed to the rake.

Even players without rakeback deals are considered to have contributed to the rake for the purposes of rakeback calculations. Whether the other players in the game have a rakeback deal, or not, will have no bearing on your rakeback total: your rakeback totals are only affected by the number of hands you play and the total rake taken during those hands.

Finally, this method favors short-handed and heads-up players since there are less players contributing to the rake, which will make your percentage of contributed rake higher. Taking our example from above; if there were only 5 players dealt into the hand, and the final rake was still $2, you would receive $.40 in MGR, doubling your rakeback amount!

Most poker players prefer the dealt rakeback method over the contributed rakeback method simply for its simplicity, and truth be told, dealt rake will almost always give a player a higher return than the contributed rake method.

Full Tilt Poker is the biggest poker site that uses the dealt rake method. Get Full Tilt rakeback now.
