What Is Rush Poker?
With their “Rush” variation of poker, Full Tilt Poker has introduced an interesting new facet to online gambling. Rush poker gives players a rapid and intense poker experience by eliminating the downtime that is experienced when a player folds a hand. Waiting for other players to finish a round after you’ve opted out is an inescapable aspect of live play, but Full Tilt has manipulated the world of virtual poker to put an end to it.
Here’s how it works: All of the players in a Rush room are randomly assigned to different tables. At almost anytime during a hand, a player can choose to “Quick Fold.” When this option is chosen, that player immediately leaves the table and gets moved to a different table where a new hand is just being dealt. Because players will be moving to and from different tables at a quick pace, you will likely encounter different opponents with each hand that you play.
The Advantages of Rush Poker
The first and most profound advantage of Rush poker is that it is fast and fun. In the time that it takes to sit through a normal ring game hand where you’ve folded, you can probably play about three hands of Rush poker. For anyone who simply likes to play the game or doesn’t have a lot of time to play it, this can be a great option. The Rush poker rooms may also be a good place for beginners who are simply looking to play a bunch of hands and get used to online poker.
Another advantage of Rush Poker is that you can “Quick Fold” your way into a good hand. There is simply no reason to gamble on a mediocre or poor hand, because you can easily fold and get a new one, sometimes even before the action has reached you the first time. In this way, you can increase your chances of winning without having the consequences of limping in with a bad hand just to stay in the game.
The Disadvantages of Rush Poker
Rush poker does have its downsides. If you use online poker as a method of training for live play, you will want to stay out of the Rush poker rooms. Playing different opponents with each hand and being able to fold and begin a different hand immediately are not concepts that exist in live poker play. Do not get too accustomed to the quick pace and faceless opponents, as live poker is very different from Rush.
Another negative aspect of Rush poker is the complete lack of opponent analysis. Because you’re constantly playing against different people, there is no incentive or opportunity to learn about your opponents’ strategies and playing styles. Players will more than likely fold unless they have a great hand, and then the game becomes simply defined by odds rather than including the mental aspects that are such a foundational element of poker.
Bluffing and gambling with low cards will probably end up in a loss of money because most players will fold unless they have a stellar hand. If you are trying to hone your skills regarding those aspects of poker, stay out of the Rush poker rooms.
