Strategy For Rush Poker

“Rush poker” is a new variation of online poker that has been developed by Full Tilt Poker.  The rules of the Rush poker games are exactly the same as in any poker game, but some of the game play qualities have been changed in order to make your poker experience more fast-paced.  The main focus of Rush poker is on the speed of play.

This is how it works:  first, all of the players who are participating in a Rush poker game are assembled randomly at different tables within one room.  At any time during a hand, a player can choose the “Quick Fold” option.  This option removes the player from the table and immediately switches them to a different table where a new hand is just beginning.  Because of this option, players will not have to wait around for the rest of the hand to play out after they’ve folded.  Also, because players will be switching all around the tables, you’ll be playing mostly new opponents with every hand.

General Strategy for Rush Poker

When you play Rush poker, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the foundational aspect – the “Quick Fold” option.  You can fold a rag hand before the action even comes to you the first time, allowing you to save even the smallest amounts of money.  Also, you can continuously fold until you get a decent hand, but keep in mind that many other players may be doing the same thing.

Also, there is almost no incentive for bluffing, as the fast-paced action will probably result in the lack of opponent awareness to your mental strategies.  Since other players will be so tempted to fold even a mediocre hand, you can be sure that a bluff with a bad hand will probably not work out.

Play Tight and Be Aggressive

Perhaps the best strategy for Rush poker is to play tightly and aggressively.  Because players will be folding until they have a good hand, you can be assured that anyone who is staying in and betting on a hand probably has very good cards.  The best hands to play in Rush poker include face-card pocket pairs, A/K, A/Q, K/Q, A/J suited, Q/J, J/10, 9/10 suited, and sometimes pairs of 10s, 9s, or 8s.  Having low pocket pairs or a low straight or flush draw will rarely pay off as other players will probably have something higher.

Once you have a good hand, be sure to bet aggressively.  Some players may be trying to play lesser hands that would sometimes pay off in standard poker ring games.  Keep raising the pot to maximize your winnings over these hands.

Don’t be too aggressive though.  Because it’s so easy and tempting to fold, many players might decide to leave a hand if they see the pot being raised too high and too early.  You absolutely must raise the pot if you have a good hand, but, in Rush poker, it is important to find a balance.
